I’m very interested in tea. I’m also very interested in people.

Have you ever wondered about the story behind your tea? Who grew it? Who processed it? Who set its price? Who packed it? Who shipped it here? The transformation of a simple tea leaf from its raw form to the beverage we so enjoy involves real people who we may be vaguely aware of. But seldom do we take a moment to wonder who they are and what kind of lives they lead.

We think their stories deserve to be told.

Behind The Cup is our attempt to showcase some of the folks who work quietly behind the scenes to bring you your cup of tea. Over time, we plan to talk a wide variety of people who are involved with tea in some capacity.

Our first article is an interview with Madan Tamang, a dear friend of the family. He talks to us about his beloved Meghma tea estate in Nepal, how(and why) he produces oolong tea and his passion for saving the Rhododendron forests.

There are millions more such stories – and we hope that we can at least scratch the surface. Stay tuned. And let us know what you think.
