An Historic Trade Route Reopens

On Thursday morning, July 6, the Nathu La pass reopened after 44 years of dormancy. Nathu La, situated at 14,200 feet (4310m), was once a part of the historic “Silk Route”. It has been closed since the Sino-Indian war of 1962. Connecting the Indian state of Sikkim with Yadong county in China, the new route is expected to bring lots of trade and tourism dollars to the region.

This is great news for the tea industry in India. Tea is one of the 29 items that India will be allowed to export to China via this new route. China, however, will be limited to 15 items – things like goats, sheep, horses and yak-tail!
By the way, is it “A historic” or “An historic”? I can never tell.
